On 22nd September Laura Wolff represented Lancashire in the Army Cadet Force
Regional Swimming Championships held at Ellesmere Port.
As she is 15 she qualifies as a junior but on the night swam as a Senior
competing against swimmers 16-19.
Laura gained gold medals in the Individual Medley and Freestyle Relay
and was asked to represent the North West Region in the National Championships.
The National Championships were held on Saturday 13th October at the
Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst. She competed in the 50m Butterfly,
75m Freestyle, 100m Individual Medley and 4 x 50m Freestyle Relay
against teams from Scotland, Wales, N Ireland, South West,West Midlands,
South East, North East, London, and Eastern England, again swimming as a senior.
Having won all her heats in the morning she took part in the finals in the afternoon.
The Relay team came 4th but in all her individual races Laura gained gold
medals and in the Freestyle set a new ACF UK record with a time of 1:00.97.
Her ACF Sports Co-ordinator reports that staff and cadets alike were
impressed with Laura’s performance and has asked that credit be paid to
Blackburn Centurions for their part in Laura’s success.
One member of staff asked “Is she the Bionic Man’s daughter?”
and everyone was impressed with her commitment, attitude, strength and stamina.
As a family we are all extremely proud of Laura and must thank the club in
their contribution to Laura’s continued improvement.
But most of all we should say a HUGE WELL DONE to Laura!!!!
